Wolfe Rosalee

Rosalee Wolfe (female-PhD) is a Professor in the School of Computing at DePaul University. Her background and experience bring together multiple disciplines as evidenced by her having held fellowships at NASA, Sony Pictures Imageworks, the University of Hamburg and through the Fulbright Commission.  Her main research interests are improving Deaf-hearing communication through non-invasive technology, sign language linguistics, computer graphics and human-computer interaction, in particular as it pertains to interfaces designed by and for the Deaf community. She is a pioneer in these fields, having authored and edited many books and journal articles as well as having developed the first academic programs in computer graphics and human-computer interaction offered anywhere in the world. She currently heads the American Sign Language Avatar Project at DePaul, home to the award-winning “Paula” sign-language avatar, which has been in use in schools and residence centers for the past 15 years.
