AeGIS Athena

AeGIS Athena Lab was established in 2020, building upon the long-standing engagement of ILSP in Xanthi towards leveraging GIS technology in archaeological data recording. This includes various techniques such as archaeological mapping, geospatial databases, photogrammetry, and archaeometry. The lab is dedicated to equipping archaeologists, historians, and cultural heritage professionals with comprehensive tools for high-resolution documentation and mapping, as well as analysis of archaeological sites and landscapes through Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Additionally, it aims to explore the significant potential of GIS applications in addressing specific archaeological challenges through innovative approaches. Ultimately, the lab serves as a central hub for studying cultural landscapes and the interaction between humans and their environment.
