abstract = {An unsupervised-learning algorithm which endows a logical neural network model with the ability to separate patterns belonging to different pattern classes while at the same time creating a topology-preserving mapping of the input space is examined in this paper. Emphasis is placed in the storage efficiency of the algorithm and its ability to maximise the number of pattern classes that can be stored in the network. To achieve that objective, the introduction of a decay mechanism in the learning rule is proposed. The development of this mechanism has been based on a detailed analysis of the self-organisation process. Experimental results indicate that this forgetting mechanism maximises the storage capacity of the network, considerably improving the system performance.},

abstract = {This paper is concerned with the design and compilation of an electronic textual corpus. 

The criteria for the selection of the texts to be included in the corpus, as well as the principles of compilation and modes of use in Theoretical, Applied and Computational Linguistics and Lexicography are presented. 

Emphasis is given to the structural and linguistic annotation of the texts according to a set of features representing the levels of linguistic analysis (phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics). 

Exemplifying cases taken from the project on a Modern Greek Reference Corpus undertaken by ILSP (Institute for Language and Speech Processing) illustrate the theoretical issues visited.},

abstract = {In this paper we elaborate on the subject of Computational Lexicography. We present and define the various types of dictionaries 

-- traditionally or electronically constructed -- and their relations. This presentation is followed by a discussion of the role of the computer in dictionary building, focussing on three stages of this process : 

a)data compilation, 

b)information organization, 

c) modes of use. 

Emphasis is given to two of the most important properties that characterize Computational Lexica, namely "reusability" and "multifunctionality". For reasons of exemplification, after a short description of the lexica used by the Eurotra Machine Translation System, we present specific cases where the above lexica can be reused, either for linguistic research or for other applications.},
