EUROMAP will achieve the above through the development of a small number of HLT communities on a European level. The communities will include suppliers of HLT which is appropriate for incorporation in other applications and services, as well as "professional" end users who use software applications in their work. The EUROMAP work programme includes targeted activities for the creation of communities, aiming to cover the needs of both R&D research organisations and end users. The main direction of these activities is
towards the acceleration of demand for HLT (technologies and tools) research
results, in order to lead to greater return on investments made in RTD.
With the creation of such environments (essentially related to the exchange of knowledge) within the framework of EUROMAP, the advanced information technology developing organisations will be assisted in understanding and acquiring control of the parameters influencing the incorporation of HLT in their products. At the same time, EUROMAP can increase awareness among user groups about the advantages of new HLT being developed and related products which are ready to be commercially exploited. This can positively influence the demand for information society related technologies.
Within the framework of EUROMAP, national and cross-border activities are carried out, while at the same time, the project is foreseen to expand in order to include most EU member countries, as well as other countries connected to the Fifth Framework Programme.
Through the organisation of special seminars, the design and maintenance of an information providing website and the manning of an HLT Infodesk, the national focal points plan, carry out and focus their activities on the "creation of communities" at a national level. In parallel with these activities, each national focal point will complete case studies, which will include information relating to the degree of research result take-up, specific sector user needs and best practice examples.
Within the parallel activities framework, the National Focal Points capitalise on this experience, bringing their forces together into three cross-border, sector-oriented task forces
(technology transfer, tourism,
e-commerce), whose members develop a close collaboration for the organisation of seminars/events and the cross-border research and analysis of selected sectors/areas.
