Η Κατερίνα Πάστρα είναι ερευνήτρια στον τομέα των γνωσιακών συστημάτων. Συντονίζει το Ευρωπαϊκό έργο POETICON (FP7-ICT, Ιαν. 2008-Δεκ. 2010) και τη μελέτη «Διαλεκτική Εικόνας και Λόγου στην Ελληνική Γελοιογραφία» (2009), που χρηματοδοτεί το Ίδρυμα Λάτση. Η Κατερίνα Πάστρα είναι πτυχιούχος του Τμήματος φιλολογίας (κατεύθυνση Γλωσσολογίας) του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, κάτοχος μεταπτυχιακού τίτλου σπουδών (MSc) σε αυτόματη μετάφραση (UMIST, U.K.) και. διδάκτωρ τεχνητής νοημοσύνης Πανεπ. Sheffield (U.K.). Στη διδακτορική της διατριβή διερεύνησε το θέμα της αυτόματης συγχώνευσης οπτικής και γλωσσικής πληροφορίας. 'Εχει εργαστεί σε θέματα αυτόματης εξαγωγής πληροφοριών και αυτόματης κατηγοριοποίησης και ανάκλησης εικόνων και οπτικο-ακουστικών αρχείων βάσει γλωσσικής ανάλυσης συνοδευτικού κειμένου (CONCERTO/IST, SOCIS/EPSRC, REVEAL THIS/IST). 'Εχει διδάξει βασικές αρχές διάδρασης ανθρώπου και μηχανής/ρομπότ, κατασκευής γραφικών διεπαφών και χρήσης γνωσιακών μεθόδων στην κατασκευή λογισμικού, ως λέκτορας του πανεπιστημίου του Sheffield. Επίσης, έχει διοργανώσει διεθνής ημερίδες σχετικές με πολυμεσικές τεχνολογίες. ‘Εχει δημοσιεύσει ερευνητικά άρθρα σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά και συνέδρια, ένα εκ των οποίων έτυχε διακρίσεως από το British Computer Society.

Γενικά Ενδιαφέροντα

***  Ανακύκλωση στην καθημερινή μας ζωή: Με ενδιαφέρουν ιδιαίτερα τρόποι εισαγωγής πρακτικών ανακύκλωσης στην καθημερινή μας ζωή. Υπάρχει απλός και ανέξοδος τρόπος να κάνουμε ανακύκλωση στο χώρο εργασίας και στο σπίτι; Στο κείμενο που είναι διαθέσιμο στον παραπάνω σύνδεσμο, έχω συγκεντρώσει σχετικές πληροφορίες για εύκολα βήματα ανακύκλωσης, με συγκεκριμένες παραπομπές για τα Ελληνικά δεδομένα (εφαρμόζονται στο ΙΕΛ).

*** Επεξεργασία και δημιουργία βίντεο: Συναφής με τα ερευνητικά μου ενδιαφέροντα, η αυτόματη επεξεργασία και δημιουργία βίντεο είναι μια ασχολία που έχω πρόσφατα ξεκινήσει. Η πρώτη μου προσπάθεια ήταν η δημιουργία των βίντεο τα οποία εξηγούν και επιδεικνύουν στο ευρύτερο κοινό τα ερευνητικά αποτελέσματα του Ευρωπαϊκού ‘Εργου REVEAL THIS (διαθέσιμα στον παραπάνω σύνδεσμο). Το βίντεο επίδειξης του mobile-application βασίστηκε σε επεξεργασία ενός άλλου βίντεο το οποίο κατέγραφε τη χρήση του συστήματος (δημιουργήθηκε από συνάδελφο), ενώ τα άλλα δύο, το web-application video και το project-presentation video δημιουργήθηκαν με χρήση τεχνολογίας screencast.
