 Ekfonitis
The new version of Ekfonitis has been released!!!
"Ekfonitis" is a text-to-speech system designed for Windows 95/98/NT/2000. The system can transform any Greek text into wide-coverage
speech of high and simultaneously handles numbers, dates, acronyms, shorthand etc. An efficient intonation algorithm automatically places appropriate
melody based on the intonation of words, the punctuation etc., giving a natural aspect to synthetic speech.
Basically, the system can interact with any programme and it can place text on a clipboard which allows it to read e-mail, Web pages, contents of text
editors and text processors, etc. For the improvement of function, a macro-command is specified for MS-Word which allows for the immediate synthesis and
reproduction of selected parts of the text. In addition, a group of function keys allow the user immediate access to the synthesis machine functions.
From the programming perspective, a simple interface is provided, based on the interchange of messages which allows other applications to utilise the
speech synthesis functions of "Ekfonitis".
For advanced users and researchers who are active in related fields, a complete development environment is provided which allows direct access and
modification of all the parameters which affect the synthesis procedure such as the initial values, the rule base, etc.
A simple text author text editors is also provided, with speech synthesis capabilities for assistance to persons with eyesight problems in relation to
retrieval, listening to and processing of text archives.
Requirements
"Ekfonitis" requires a PC with Windows 95/NT. It makes use of common
multimedia hardware (SOUNDBLASTER sound card or equivalent and speakers).
The proposed structure is a Pentium 150 MHz or better, with at least
32 MB memory. Windows 2000: If you use Windows 2000, after
installing Ekfonitis you should also install the following patch: EkfonitisPatch.zip.
